It's 8/8/08 - the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics are underway, the Northeast is being ravaged by constant, rolling storms, and California is beginning to right itself after last week's earthquake.
What an important time in history. What's a girl to do? Go take some pictures, that's what.
flickr has launched a special photo pool, 888 , to commemorate the day. As the rules stipulate, flickr photogs are charged with taking photos today and uploading one, singular moment in time to the pool, thus creating a human-powered snapshot of the globe.
Last year, a similar group, 7.7.7 , was created for similar reasons; in that case, we were asked to provide seven photos taken on 7/7/07 to help raise awareness for Unicef.
I stuck close to home last July, and decided to take pictures in my city. The trip ended up being a nice representation of the day, both globally and locally:

I'll be home again today, hunkering down as the thunderstorms continue and checking out everyone's moments in the 888 pool as it grows ( you can add photos within the next couple of weeks, btw).
What are you doing today? And did you take a picture of it? If so, comment and link to any pics!
