One of the greatest lessons I've learned since becoming a travel writer has been the art of packing. One rail trip across Europe with an overloaded bag taught me that less is more, and that when friends ask to please-bring-a-bottle-of-French-wine-home-for-me-it's-so-cheap-there-but-I'll-totally-pay-you-back-THANKS, you should buy them a bottle of Boone's Farm and force them to drink it through a funnel before saying au revoir.
It's that bad, lugging clothes, press packets, and Bordeaux on the Metro.
That said, I was able to parlay my new packing prowess into an article on packing for a ski trip.
Enjoy.
