A few weeks ago, I asked JaxMum to see if she could find some old family photos of Halloween costumes our tribe has sported in the past.
Yesterday, I got a manila envelope in the mail filled with some vintage shots of me, my sister and brother, and some other assorted relatives in their spookiest finery.
It's a nice reminder of the early, innocent days, like when I was a tiny mouse

(that's JaxDad and Grampy watching me stuff my face)
...and JaxSis and JaxBro were gooney-lookin' hoboes.

Pete Wentz? Is that you?
JaxMum came through with the photo I was really hoping to get, though; one that would truly illustrate the level to which I am a life-long nerd. A few Halloween costumes came to mind, like the year in high school when I dressed as a Spanish olive, but there's one year in particular that takes the bite-sized Snickers. It must have been fourth or fifth grade, so maybe it was a history lesson that prompted my epiphany, but for whatever reason, one morning in October I shot up in bed and announced that I was going to dress as Betsy Ross for trick-or-treating.

Betsy Ross? The revolutionary War flagmaker who may or may not have sewn the first American flag? Yup. Note my attention to detail - the vintage cap, the granny glasses, the flag mounted in an embroidery circle. I am historical, hear me roar.

I love this post!! I have boxes of old family photos and there is no
greater treasure than flipping through stacks of old memories! =) By the
way? Your Betsy Ross costume was way better than any costume I ever came up
with.
